CREID was using a "One Health" approach to perform basic research into all the pathogens out there to gain an understanding of their emergence, spread, and evolution - as well as their pandemic potential, including novel ones.

There were three programs - ReVAMPP, AViDD, and CREID. ReVAMPP is still active, but the other two have been canceled - I was the PI on one of the canceled CREID centers ("WARN-ID").

It's important to put this in context of one of the first things Taubenberger did when he took over as the director of NIAID - he canceled the premier pandemic preparedness network ("CREID" - which we were part of) because it was deemed "unsafe for Americans".

He doesn’t deal with individual grants himself. So ironic then that one of touch stone lies spun by COVID conspiracists and the MAGA faithful is that Tony Fauci *personally* paid off Kristian Andersen and Bob Garry for changing their minds on virus origins with a CREID grant.
NIH Director Jay Bhattacharya's rush to absolve himself is particularly interesting to me as someone who paid attention to his public statements since 2020. He holds Collins & Fauci personally responsible for every aspect of the Covid response (& origins), regardless of their actual involvement.
