Ohhhhh!

I just remembered!

Today is the anniversary of when Murriyang (CSIRO Parkes radio telescope) came into operation!

65 years and still producing groundbreaking science! 📡

Wrote this piece about my fav telescope 5 years ago: www.spaceaustralia.com/index.php/fe...

So this kind of "Artificial Intelligence" has nothing at all to do with LLMs, agentic blah blah etc. It's simple computer vision stuff (probably OpenCV) and the CSIRO were trialing this back in the late 90s. Obviously the computery bits have become a lot more compact since then.

Wi-Fi has a story that starts with exploding black holes. John O'Sullivan's CSIRO team took an old radio astronomy problem and used it to fix scrambled signals indoors.

Guided by a fear of truth that speaks to power, the Big Cons may discover there is nothing left to cut at CSIRO.
Remember when everyone thought that the LNP were the bad guys that hack away at our premier scientific research institution and that things would improve* once Labor was in government?

🥲
Staff have been told up to 100 more researchers will lose their jobs. https://bit.ly/3URpCoc

Could fund CSIRO for 365 years. Imagine the ROI if CSIRO was funded the same amount as AUKUS.

Get rid of AUKUS and use the $365 billion to fund CSIRO for 365 years.

It’s action on the ground in Australia where he’s failing though. Climate change, fossil fuel expansion, AUKUS, healthcare, agedcare, science, csiro, nbn, NDIS, state schools, universities, TAFEs, trades training, First Nations, cosying up to the oligarchs, truth in media, ISRAELI GENOCIDE…
