Nuclear critics of the GenCost report have gone quiet, perhaps because the first real western contract for SMRs has proved the CSIRO’s cost estimates to be spot on.

The Greens are deeply concerned about CSIRO’s funding following successive cuts. We must do all we can to save the CSIRO. Science matters & it must be sufficiently resourced with public funds, to ensure science & research is independent and free of commercialisation.

Bravo to our new Chief Scientist, Professor Tony Haymet, confirming to Sarah Ferguson his confidence in the rigour of the CSIRO's report proving that nuclear power is the least viable, least affordable energy option for Australia.
If you disagree, be specific & back it with facts.

The Greens have secured an inquiry to find out why job & program cuts are being rolled out across the CSIRO! It will consider the impacts of the funding cuts, the importance of public funding for science & CSIRO’s future funding & resourcing needs.

Y'know, these 'Liberals Against Nuclear' ads are pretty damn good! This one cites the CSIRO's finding that nuclear energy will be twice as expensive as alternatives by 2040.

You remember the CSIRO, right? The bunch of scientists and experts Dutton bagged as lefty nerds, or woke, or ... something. 🤷

Big batteries keep getting cheaper, wind costs are easing, and coal and gas are rising. CSIRO’s GenCost report confirms again that firmed renewables are Australia’s cheapest electricity option, writes Sophie Vorrath. #energy #renewables #auspol
Cost of wind and batteries fall as CSIRO finds new way to show renewables are cheapest
CSIRO’s latest GenCost report shows battery costs falling fast, wind costs stabilising and coal, gas and nuclear lagging well behind. For the seventh year running, firmed renewables remain the lowest-cost path for Australia’s electricity system.

Peter Dutton’s Trumpist “concept of a plan” on nuclear power for Australia. Don’t know about you but I reckon CSIRO’s analysis is well based - that nuclear will double the cost of current renewables transition (which includes national grid upgrade).

Another Budget week gone &, overall, I'd say Australian research is worse off than last week.

Maybe medical research is a bit better off.
CSIRO's on slightly firmer footing ("but we'll sack everyone anyway").

University-based research? "Research translation"?
Stuffed.

No $. No plan. No research.

We're frequently asked to recommend a field guide that covers all eucalypts.

While no physical book could hold the enormous diversity of the 900+ eucalypts, CSIRO's Eucalypts of Australia interactive key almost manages it!

Oh my goodness - it's finally here! But I am sad that the CSIRO's version didn't get there first.

Just imagine, a battery made from common elements - renewables are now accessible to everyone!
German engineers have developed a sustainable salt-and-air battery that operates without lithium, cobalt, or rare earth metals. Instead, it uses a mixture of sodium (salt), air, and ceramic conductors to store and discharge efficiently.
(up to 20 years), It is ideal for storing solar & wind energy
