Interestingly, the sheriff claiming the guy was bent on killing Trump is a "constitutional sheriff." He's been a member of the CSPOA and the Oath Keepers in the past. Both groups have some overlap with sovereign citizen beliefs.

It was always a media failure to paint Lamb as moderate in his primary race against Kari Lake. He’s a darling in the hardline anti-immigrant scene (CSPOA, FAIR) and he has no problem flirting with the militia/“private security” crowd. Neither were moderates, just slightly different flavors of fash
