I don't know where the author read 11% (Computer Science enrollment is down 27% since 2025 and 34% since 2024). With more decline in the pipeline because first-years are down about 50% and I don't see an enrollment surge on the horizon (more likely the opposite).

I presume you've read or listened to Cory Doctorow.
He's not really a deep CSci guy but makes a persuasive argument that the "AI run amok" craze is intentional sales baloney.
I'm phys/math w BSEE/CSci, not that deep into machine learning.. still much to learn, but I *am* skeptical.

I’ve also just pivoted to a more politics focused career, but I still do some coding and modding for fun. It wouldn’t take me long to get back into csci.

CSCI probably used to be more codesmithing than it is now (not by much though) and in our world, coding is pretty fucking easy to do. It’s all the tedious shit like optimization, knowing what values are best for what purposes, matrices, UI, internet stuff, etc. that make someone a computer scientist

We have to make comments for every line of code we do in this intro to CSCI & it's kinda tedious but what we're doing is so rudimentary & it's actually a helpful tool for remembering shit/learning the jargon.

You’re okay. I sometimes have the same feeling to be honest. It can be rough being trans irl and even on sites where there are some genuinely toxic peer pressure behaviors that are rewarded. I should’ve realized what the full context was and acknowledged it before being a CSCI nerd.
