ESO signed a contract for the construction of telescope foundations and roads for CTAO-South.

The future leading gamma-ray observatory, CTAO consists of 2 telescope arrays: CTAO-South at our Paranal Observatory in Chile & CTAO-North in Spain.

🔭 L’observatoire de rayons gamma CTAO est promu infrastructure de recherche d’intérêt européen. À son démarrage, CTAO sera le plus grand observatoire pour l’astronomie gamma.

🔬 IJCLab et le LLR sont deux laboratoires de Paris-Saclay impliqués dans ce lancement.

Higgsinos are one of the best-motivated WIMP dark matter candidates, but mostly invisible to direct detection. We showed today arxiv.org/abs/2506.08084 that the soon-to-be operational CTAO-North detectors in the Canary Islands might be able to detect higgsino annihilation in gamma-rays before 2030!

The site of the upcoming Cherenkov Telescope Array Observatory’s (CTAO’s) southern facility is being prepared in Chile’s Atacama Desert, following the groundbreaking ceremony that took place in December 2025.
