Ok, I've watched The Cabinet of Dr. Calagari (1920), Nosferatu (1922), and Frankenstein (1931) this fall. Frankenstein was awful.

You can talk about NOSFERATU, DR. CALAGARI, German Expressionism, HAXAN, etc. all you want, but one of the core building blocks of horror cinema can be found when the evil queen turns herself into an old hag in Disney’s SNOW WHITE AND THE SEVEN DWARFS.
There's a handful of good ones. I highly recommend some of Buster Keaton's work, namely The General. That one's fun. Also, Cabinet of Doctor Calagari is fantastic too.

The original German Expressionism gave life to modern horror movies. Noferatu and Dr. Calagari in the 1920s are foundational. I do love the 1979 Werner Herzog interpretation, personally I'm very fond of 70s horror aesthetics but.
