Remember to call multiple times. Getting weird calls for one day got dismissed when I was in a callcentre

S1/the book gave EVERYONE a happy ending, down to Lesley or the callcentre workers that Terry insisted had to be revived. S3 gave NO ONE a happy ending and instead gave us a new, different universe and expected us to be happy with those characters we don't even know #GoodOmens3

In re bank grumbling - this 100%. Almost every person once you've got behind the callcentre wall has been excellent. And even the callcentre staff are fine within their limited authority to do anything. ANZ's just set up a system to wall customers off from these useful people because 'efficiency'.
It’s like the actual staff are fine, but the customer service system is just utterly broken in the name of ‘efficiency’.

“Passageway”

I liked the way the trees angles in on each other to create a passageway through the woods to the rear of the Sky TV Callcentre in Livingston. Surprisingly busy little area of the world.

Part of what burnt me out my last callcentre job was having to transfer people who didn’t fall under our lightly-staffed-but-staffed remit away to what I knew was a phone tree of automatic answers that disconnects you and leaves you adrift in hopes you don’t try to call back.
That's why DOGE replaced the call center at US Customs and Immigration with a chatbot that tells you to read a PDF and disconnects the call:

The Trump admin doesn't want to hear from immigrants who are trying to file their bewildering paperwork correctly.

Tradespeople can make bank, people in ties can get paid piss (I know I definitely have been). This working class as aesthetic noise is what makes £80k a year guys with an accent think they're men of the people and makes exploited callcentre staff think they can't unionise.

Having worked in numerous kitchens, at an auto parts place, a thrift store, a callcentre, as a TA, an intern, a researcher, an editor and as an archeologist, I can attest to this, lair included (my office is a literally a former linen closet that I've fortified to my liking).
Speaking from her underground lair, which she built using knowledge from her teenage two-week work experience as a bricklayer, Emerson commented: “The world is fucked - and as unlikely as it seems, I’m the most qualified person to fix it.”

Customer service rather than food/drink, but when I was in the callcentre I always used to keep a tally chart through November/December tracking the times I’d been told that I ruined Christmas vs. times I was told I saved it.

I was issued my first lanyard when I started working in a callcentre.

And tele-operators on-line - sounds like those Amazon shops where actually it was a bunch of Indian callcentre workers who were totting up the bills. 🙄

My first job was in a BT callcentre on the phONEday helpline.
It was entirely staffed by 20something slackers and existed solely to provide a safe-space for people who'd just ordered personalised stationery or builders who'd had their vans signwritten to swearily vent.

I worked with one who talked like a baby who called in sick because her phone was being weird, and did this by messaging half the callcentre in the hope that somebody told someone in charge.

Hmm, after months of hassle, bank website not working, crashing, phone help line disconnecting, callcentre people telling me ohhh nooo, I must only use Chrome, ohhh nooo, nothing wrong with their website; tone of voice: "Poor GenX codger doesn't know to computer..." suddenly site stable + [cont'd]
