Meet Nala, our old lady who traveled with us to Washington from Texas.

She just turned 11 in April, and is a true void cat.

Nala is a true black cat with green eyes. She doesn’t have any white spots anywhere. As the most senior cat in the house, she has certain privileges and also just doesn’t give any f*cks anymore. Here she is just loafing on the dining table without a care n the world. Black pets are very different to take pictures of. Here Nala is supposed to pose in front of my copy of Stephen King‘s Songs of Susannah, and while she’s super cute, she’s totally blocking the book. One of my favorite images of Nala. She is sitting on the dining table (again), with a bit of backlighting from the overhead lights. The table is covered with a fall-themed table cloth and she is sitting in front of a white chair, which produces an excellent contrast. On the right edge of the picture is a black backpack with two reflective patches looking almost like another set of eyes staring into the camera.

Meet Fender, my two (almost three) year old tabby boy. I adopted him and his brother Gibson in August of 2023.

Well, he adopted me, by jumping straight into my arms when I opened the door to his crate.

Yes, they were named after guitar makers.

My tabby cat Fender staring grumpily into the camera while I am trying to take a cute selfie with him. I suck at taking selfies, but he isn’t helping either. Since I adopted him Fender has always loved to be held like a baby. Even as a 16-pound chunk he is quick to jump on my shoulder and then roll over in my arms. I had just gotten home and am still holding the mail in my hand with a tote bag hanging from my left arm. Fender has had the weirdest fascination with eggs for a long time. I have caught him numerous time sitting on them or climbing into the egg basket that we use to collect eggs from our small flock. Fender is trying to climb into the plant window in my office that I had to build to keep the cats from eating them. His brother Gibson is sitting on a scratcher platform on his left. Unfortunately Gibson died unexpectedly in October of 2024, it took quite a while for his brother to stop looking for him.
