Excavating a slot through the earthworks of Camphill. It’s been extremely hard work so far, the team have done a great job. It’s not all dainty trowelling on excavations! #CamphillDig26

Excavating and recording the inner ditch at Camphill earthworks in Glasgow. This is barely evident on the surface. The outer ditch should get the same treatment tomorrow. It’s a massive earthwork! #UrbanPrehistory #CamphillDig26

Nothing prehistoric yet at #CamphillDig26 but here’s a Bakelite Glasgow tram token from at least 70 years ago. It was found in a test pit near where excavations last happened on the site 75 years ago. Was it dropped by a digger? 😉

Was up there at #CamphillDig26 for the open day today, though they welcome visitors during the week too. Great stuff!

A nice selection of some of our nicest finds at #CamphillDig26 - and they do indeed show that this drumlin overlooking the Clyde Valley has been popular for millennia!

A nice selection of some of our nicest finds at #CamphillDig26 - and they do indeed show that this drumlin overlooking the Clyde Valley has been popular for millennia!
Those who know Glasgow’s Queen’s Park & Camphill well may recognise this excavation target, an improvised fire pit in a circle of boulders. Amazingly in this area we’ve found a possible posthole, a cobbled surface and - something potentially Neolithic! #CamphillDig26

I'll excavating - with @archscot.bsky.social - Camphill enclosure (near the flagpole) in Queen's Park, Glasgow from 24th August for 2 weeks. Open day Saturday 29th. Potentially the oldest upstanding monument in Glasgow! #UrbanPrehistory

Day 1 of #CamphillDig26. Our team of student trainees & volunteers made a cracking start deturfing the bank that surrounds Camphill enclosure in #Glasgow. The clay core of the bank is close to the surface thankfully. Tomorrow we’ll try to find the ditch edges. @archscot.bsky.social

Day 1 of #CamphillDig26. Our team of student trainees & volunteers made a cracking start deturfing the bank that surrounds Camphill enclosure in #Glasgow. The clay core of the bank is close to the surface thankfully. Tomorrow we’ll try to find the ditch edges. @archscot.bsky.social
Went to lend a hand at #CamphillDig26 today. While the team have yet to determine if the site's residents were Iron Age, Roman or Mediaeval, we now at least know that they were regular users of Glasgow's tram network.
