Here in Mass, our bowling is candlepin bowling. You don’t get fitted for a ball or put your fingers in grody holes. Finesse is for the weak. You hold that fucker like a grenade and chuck that shit as hard as you can. There is deadwood in the gutter.

The true testament to the unrivaled difficulty of the sport is the fact that no one has ever bowled a perfect candlepin game in sanctioned competition. The best score ever was 245 set in 1984 and tied in 2011. It's tougher than stuffing a wet noodle up a wildcat's ass.

A couple of years ago there was a movie called Eephus about an adult-league baseball game set in a small Mass city (Bill Lee had a cameo). The same guys just made a movie set in a candlepin joint in Concord, NH. Would've loved to be an extra. Can't wait to see it.
