Some butterflies are supermodels, while others are more like Special Forces operatives in chameleon camo garb. Like this Owl Butterfly here.

A bright colourful photo of a dark, almost drab looking, brown Owl Butterfly. They are famous for the large, prominent eyespots on the underside of their wings. These patterns resemble the eyes of an owl, which helps scare away hungry predators like birds and lizards in their natural rainforest habitats. They are native to the tropical forests of Mexico, Central America, and South America. Visually, this is a close-up macro photograph showing an owl butterfly resting on a black metal structure, its wings folded vertically to reveal a complex camouflage pattern. The underside of the wing is a mosaic of rich brown, tan, and beige ripples, dominated by a prominent, dark circular eyespot with a golden-yellow border near the lower edge that mimics an owl's eye. The butterfly's head, slender antennae, and legs are visible where it grips the vertical metal bar. The background is a soft, vibrantly blurred Bokeh mix of lush green foliage and hints of red flowers, creating a shallow depth of field that highlights the intricate textures of the butterfly.

Gleam & glow gently into that good night. Emerald luminescence that prompts a smile; beauty & fragility, admiration. A wizard of Oz.

Macro close-up photo of a stunning, vibrant green and black Swallowtail butterfly resting on a soft green leaf. Its large wings are fully spread, showcasing an iridescent, shimmering dark green texture covered in tiny specks that look like emerald dust. Crossing vertically through the center of each wing is a broad, brilliant neon turquoise or mint green band that instantly catches the eye. The lower hindwings are scalloped with light green trim along the edges and taper into elegant, long black tails. Two delicate, thread-like antennae extend forward from its small head, while the soft-focus, blurred background of leaves and muted light keeps the absolute focus on the butterfly's striking coloration and symmetry.

A close-up, vertical, colour macro shot of a large, black and yellow carpenter bee resting upon a vibrant red salvia flower. The bee's fuzzy, golden back stands out against its sleek black head, abdomen, and wings as it clings to the petals. Branching upward from the lower left, a slender green stem displays deep purple, pointed flower buds that are poised to open. The bright red of the blossoms provides a sharp contrast against a soft, heavily blurred Bokeh background of pale green and gold, which brings the insect and its floral perch into sharp focus.

A close-up, vibrantly colourful macro shot of a black swallowtail butterfly resting on a cluster of bright pink Pentax flowers against a softly blurred, glowing, almost neon looking emerald and orange background. The butterfly is positioned on the left side of the frame in profile, showing its dark, textured wings that feature a dusting of pale iridescence, small orange and blue spots along the lower wing edge, and a distinctive white band on the upper wing. Its slender legs grip the small, star-shaped blossoms, and its long antennae arch upward, while its proboscis/nose extends downward toward the center of a flower to feed.

Horizontal macro photo of what Google tells me is "a dark swallowtail butterfly, such as a Common Mormon (Papilio polytes) or a closely related species in the Papilio genus." It's feeding on small red flowers against a bright green background. The insect displays dark, textured wings with hints of iridescent blue-black scales and a slender body perched on the cluster of blossoms. For the visually impaired, a black swallowtail butterfly is perched upright atop bright pink cluster flowers, angled slightly upward with its long, slender legs firmly gripping the petals. Its dark body features distinct compound eyes and long, forward-curving antennae extending into the soft green background. The butterfly's black wings are partially open and held vertically, showing natural ragged, jagged wear along the edges with subtle hints of red near the base of the lower body. A very similar photo to the accompanying photo, this one shows the butterfly's wings in more of an upright, both erect, position. Also, this time it's head is down as it feeds.

A vertical, macro colour photo of what Google tells me is a Blue Morpho butterfly. It is resting with its wings closed, showing the distinctive eyespots on the underside of its brown-patterned wings alongside brilliant flashes of iridescent turquoise blue. The Blue Morpho) is native to the tropical forests of Central and South America. Google has more information on the butterfly. "Eyespots (Ocelli): The large, concentric ring patterns on the underwings serve as a defense mechanism to deter predators by mimicking the eyes of larger animals. Structural Coloration: While the underside is camouflaged for protection, the upper wing surface features brilliant blue colors created by the microscopic structure of the scales reflecting light rather than pigmentation." For the visually impaired, this photo shows a vibrant Blue Morpho butterfly rests in profile on a textured, light-colored stone surface, showcasing the intricate underside of its wings against a softly blurred background of lush green foliage. The closed wings display a striking pattern of large, concentric brown and yellow eyespots (ocelli) outlined in black, interspersed with iridescent flashes of brilliant metallic turquoise blue and shimmering gold borders. The butterfly's dark body, delicate legs, and long antennae are clearly visible as it sits alertly, creating a detailed close-up of its camouflaged exterior.
