Cardiff became the capital of Wales 70 years ago this month. The Home Secretary, Gwilym Lloyd George, announced the decision on December 20, 1955.

Tongwynlais railway station was opened in March 1911 but only operated for 20 years. It was closed in July 1931 and converted into a private house.

Roger L Brown published “The Lewis’ of Greenmeadow” in 1984. He was the vicar of St Michael’s Church from 1979 to 1993 and a keen historian.

Greenmeadow House was eventually demolished in 1945.

The Cardiff Arms is a coat of arms featuring a shield, mural crown and slogan, “Villa Cardiff”.
