my nuclear counterpoint is that practically everyone who overpacks a carryon somehow makes it my problem, which is i check my bag
If we’re doing nuclear airport takes: if you’re going there for less than six months, you’re not going to be doing anything requiring specialized equipment, and you’re not going to an extremely austere or remote place, which is >90% of most people’s travel, checking baggage is a skill issue.
i think it was josh barro on twitter who said "if you don't occasionally miss a flight that means you've wasted too much time at the airport over the course of your life," which is so fundamentally alien to me that i honestly think about it all the time
