Stork with caruncle right behind the neck. No doubt the basis for the PhP stork.

Next time some chud starts talking about women in video games I'm gonna start talking about the lacrimal caruncle highlight mesh and I'm just gonna keep hammering it

This is my new strategy

Deborah Ann Woll isn't hot enough? Clearly they didn't add a proper lacrimal caruncle highlight mesh

Muscovy duck with the signature red caruncle and that bold black-and-white pattern. Always cool to see them up close.🦆

The bump on the pelican's bill is called a caruncle, and supposedly it helps pelicans attract mates.

larger caruncle = more attractive

The pelican on the left must be a real catch!!!

Two pelicans flying together. The large bump on the bill forms during breeding season.

Waddle (verb): to walk with short steps and a swaying motion.

Wattle (noun, anatomy): a fleshy caruncle hanging from various parts of the head or neck.

Lift-off! The bump on this American white pelican's beak is a caruncle or "breeding horn". Both males and females have them in the spring and then they fall off in the summer #birds 🌿

Somewhat related: Ausarchosaur over on Twitter shared this GSP drawing of an albertosaur with a speculative keratinous caruncle. I was of the idea that a structure like this is redundant since the lacrimal hornlets might already be sexually selective structures. I'd really like to hear your take.

And here we have Percy/Penelope (not sure about gender) the Pelican with a prominent caruncle, a pair of house finches and a proper Robin with a beak full of fish flies for #BirdOfTheDay #BestOfTheMonth. Always thinking of @mandk6980.bsky.social when I point my camera at our feathered friends...

I've been looking for an excuse to post this beauty, a King Vulture seen (in captivity) at the National Aviary in Colombia. A face only a mother could love.

I took this American white pelican photo a couple of days ago, and it really shows the breeding plumage nicely:

*bright white feathers
*long head feathers
*light blue eyes
*caruncle (the bump on the beak)

Yes, the sunscreen is burning my eye, but it’s all going to be worth it when my lacrimal caruncle produces a saltwater pearl.
