These are the larvae of the Bunaea alcinoe moth, one of the most unusual species of silkworms.
They look very menacing because of their large spikes, as well as their red & black colors, in fact these creatures are absolutely safe

🕷️ Body-snatcher caterpillars

A Hawaiian caterpillar has been found to live in spider webs, scavenging insect remains & camouflaging itself with body parts of prey.

An ancient, endangered lineage found only on Oʻahu.

I used to find monarch catepillars as a kid and take car of them till they pupated in a jar so i could release them as butterflies, and seeing them as an adult just reminds me of some of the few/rare good times when i was a kid.

My catepillars needed new milkweed, cuz it's wilting in the heat, even though the stems are in water!! I have 26 now!!

often thought this, and some spectacular catepillars turn into quite dowdy moths, a phenomenon comparable to 2nd album syndrome I fear!

My parsley is actually all gone because of catepillars! Maybe some butterfly weed? Wild native garlic will eventually populate. Also salsify that appeared in our yard is reseeding.

The Catepillars stripped the plants bare. I woke up one morning and all the leaves were gone.
