Since they used a pig, I can tell you that the scene they're talking about is MEANT to make you uncomfortable, too. It's a trick Cazador plays on Astarion right after he is turned, to shock and humiliate him. I think they're more likely angry Astarion has a sexuality at all, though, tbh.

Basically there is just 0 understanding of who and what Cazador is meant to be, 0 understanding of what their dynamic is meant to be, completely ignores ANY of the game canon related to that, and managed to take a fantastically written complex character and render him into The Horny Zeppo.

He was DESPERATELY clear that he was being coerced into this by Cazador, that he was essentially being pimped by this man into luring the potential clients to the Palace so that Cazador could assault and kill them. But he's then written in his own book as ACTIVELY DECIDING TO BE PIMPED?????

All of the huge plot beats that SHOULD have been desperately impactful, based on the actual game, end up falling super flat because either Cazador is characterized as this harried annoyed sire dealing with Astarion as Dennis the Menace, or Astarion is characterized as not actually being that hurt.

The finale of the contest did leave a lot to be desired. I fully expected something a bit more... dramatic from Cazador. I expected a lot more things from Cazador but the spawn really become the driving force of his character rather than he himself.

Also the fact that the spawn are openly aware of Cazador consorting with those under Mephistopheles. These are two key things within Astarion's questline that are established and hold impact to the story.

I also believe this scene sets up the flashback to Astarion's first evening in the palace (infamous pig scene) and why Astarion reacts the way he does within it as Cazador creates the illusion and has total control over the situation. It's alarming. It's meant to alarm us, as it does to Astarion

I want to touch on Astarion's survival mechanic for just a moment. During the scene where Cazador presents his shoes for Astarion to lick we are given insight as to why he "chooses" to do these things. Astarion informs us that it is better to have a sense of "free will" rather than it be taken away.

I also believe the spawn were the reflections of the horrors within the palace more than Cazador was, which was clever. The weight of the control he had over them could be felt with every single one of them. Especially in the scene where Petras and Violet are playing dragon chess.

I remember I finally beat Cazador after three days of reloading. It was 3am and I was exhausted and then I proceeded to sit there and cry and cry and cry. It's a scene that still makes my chest hurt to see but in a much better headspace now to watch.

Cazador in the book is far milder than the real one in game - the fact that each spawn has their own separate room speaks volumes. Damn reviews delve deeper into his inner turmoil than the book does, simply because the author isn't interested in that subject—she only cares about her paladin.

El cazador lo tenia todo calculado: distancia, salto, velocidad. Y en el ultimo segundo todo se desmorona. Asi es la caza real.
