We do ceilidhs too!

Thank you for this observation. I was becoming sadly resigned to the idea I'm a Luddite over this. You are right though. During lockdown I worked out how to use zoom and other tech to run ceilidhs online, livestream performances and use Moodle. It's just that technology was actually useful.

There's no workout like a ceilidh with people who know how to do ceilidhs

#FolkyFriday #CapeBretonNS
Cape Breton #Ceilidhs (NS, summer) hum with Scots’ reels. Creighton’s tales warn of fairy rings luring dancers to the Otherworld, time twisting. “King George IV” charms sìth, weaving Maritime magic. 💃🎻

See I was rural but none of us were friendly with any local farmers. Shame.

HOWEVER, my uncle's farm is legendary in the family for it's ceilidhs. Including that one time the floor nearly fell through.

Apart from ceilidhs, I’m not a dancer.

I’ll dance on the day he dies. Free form. I’ll pogo. I’ll do the fucking fandango.

I am in Scotland and from Scotland and I’ve been to numerous ceilidhs but for some reason I’m thinking: big The Last Of Us Part II vibes. A game written and directed by an Israeli dude, and made by Americans.

Colleague has become an Albaphile. I’m teaching him about Burns and ceilidhs and Irn Bru but not getting into economic devastation and grubby harled council estate semis. Because I’m nice like that.

In Scotland traditional country dancing is taught in gym classes at school so kids happily join in at ceilidhs.
Ceilidhs so much better than discos, you can actually talk to folk between the dances!

One thing that’s going to get lost in the coverage is that the Pogues started a huge resurgence of traditional Irish as well as Scottish and Welsh music groups here in Canada. I remember going to ceilidhs in the 1990’s and they were a regular-ish occurrence.
