Alex is spot on everyone. Although some CERCs have been positive and productive, it comes at an enormous cost to the rest of the Canadian research landscape. Cutting NSERC and then handing out enormous cheques to recruit bigwigs is not a win.

To be perfectly honest I absolutely hate the CERCs (Canada Excellence Research Chairs) program.
You would need to be awake 24/7 to spend that much money over the 8 years, seriously.
You wouldn’t even have enough time in your days to be able to spend that much money (wisely, anyways).
