Chicita's Sea Storm Lichen - Cetrelia chicitae
New to me
I will wholeheartedly announce that I don't like this genus. It generally requires multiple spot tests to ID accurately, the confirming tests might not always be positive, and even when they are positive they're extremely faint.

Sunday stroll "accidentally" took us past an isolated bit of south Lakeland's mostly vanished Lobarion. Nephroma parile, Cetrelia olivetorum and Peltigera horizontalis still hanging on. Parmeliella triptophylla too. But I should go back soon to do some monitoring and pruning....

Enjoyable Saturday in the woods near Tilberthwaite with Cumbria Lichen and Bryophyte Group. Lots of good acid bark stuff including (everybody's) favourites Cetrelia olivetorum; Hypotrachyna laevigata and Bunodophoron melanocarpum. #LichenGBI
Cetrelia olivetorum var cetrarioides on an oak tree. Hypotrachyna laevigata 3 folk on a steep hillside looking for lichens Bunodophoron melanocarpum- the trumpets are fruiting bodies with a black spore mass. This is the only known population in the Windermere or Coniston catchments.

We're in Knapdale for the week to explore the scattered oceanic woodlands and coastal rocks for lichens, starting with Cetrelia olivetorum, Leptogium cyanescens and Pannaria rubiginosa. #LichensGBI
Glimpse of sun at Achahoish Cetrelia olivetorum with tiny white freckles on the upper surface Leptogium cyanescens, thin with pale grey with small frills turning into lobelets on the lobe margins Pannaria rubiginosa, fairly common with orange-brown fruit and small lobes with pale margins.

Close-up of the isidia along the edge of lobe of Cetrelia lichen. The isidia are small balck protrusions that are abundant alon ghte lobe edge and some on the surface of the lobe. The lobe edge is wavy. Colony of Cetrelia lichen on stone lantern. There are dense isidia in the central part of the colony, and they become confined to edge of lobes as it spreads out. There are no isidia on the extreme tip of the lobes. Here, there are clear white markings and black edge. Some apothecia in the middle part (not clear in the photo).

Cetrelia sp. with large floppy lobes and white pseudocyphellae. There are jagged structures on the edge of the lobe at base. This lichen was dying off and I am not sure whether this is seasonal. Sugadaira Kogen, Ueda, Nagano #Lichen #FungiFriends

Cetrelia cetrarioides is an uncommon rag lichen living on red alder in low elevation riparian forests in the Pacific Northwest. Distinguished by pseudocyphellae on the upper & lower surfaces & elongate soralia along smooth thallus margins. Seen here along Mill Creek in downtown Turner, Oregon.

This shot makes it look like Punctelia sp. Cetrelia have very distinct lobes that lift up from the substrate.

A close-up those white dots. Punctelia sp have dots that seem to be raised, while Cetrelia have white mottles (well that's not ALWAYS the case but helps ID).
