this is a bit of an esoteric vent, but one of the things I noticed in online puerh/tea spaces is that there's a certain type of western-facing Tea Guy (usually a guy) who promotes product primarily based upon their "chaqi" or "body feel," sometimes even going so far as to throw shade at those […]

a lot of chinese terms also get rather confused when crossing between languages. this is why i generally try to avoid terms like yanyun, huigan, chaqi - I'm gaining my knowledge of these terms and what they pertain to in a rather plato's allegory of the cave manner

the likely reason what you call chaqi is absent in CTC tea is due to its nature as a tool of british colonial power. the CTC process largely equalises terroir, elevation, and grade. this enables the cheapest tea grown anywhere to compete with the most expensive tea

I'm not a big puerh guy, so the question of age on qi is probably best left to such people. I've heard people say it does change the chaqi. For huigan, that's probably a bit of both? This is where my knowledge ends. I wasn't lucky enough to drink puerh when it was too cheap not to :)

A perfect tea session doesn't just hydrate. It intoxicates.

That spellbinding moment when leaf, water, vessel, and mind align. Pure, quiet magic.

Have you felt “tea drunk”?

Ooo! How is it making you feel? Good chaqi?

I love the yancha experience for the back-of-the-throat aroma and the chaqi through the second or third steep, but past that I often get edgy and jittery. Maybe not with every yancha but with most of them.

I made the mistake of not giving the first steep my full attention.

By the second steep, I learned this queen deserves my full attention.

Beautiful, full aroma. Gentle but expansive chaqi. I can feel it in my heart center and solar plexus.

Thank you, @teacuriousrie.bsky.social.

Had this amazing #sheung #pu'erh with my girlfriend yesterday which had such POWERFUL #chaqi, the most I've ever felt. Had it once before and it's as good as I remember. Really lives up to the brand name, and it's cool to drink tea made by ethnic minority peoples in #China. Highly recommend 🍵💛

Finally decided on a birthday tea! Had to be something special, so I’m trying an aged raw puerh (from 2007) for the first time. Wow! I finally understand what shou puerh is going for (and don’t get me wrong, I do love shou). Waiting for the chaqi to kick in and wondering where this will go…
