#Charcoals
#Octember The easy answer is that Ollie and Vince want to create things. Ollie wants to publish his own video game (he's a code monkey and a gamer, it's inevitable).

Vince likewise wants to make art: charcoals, paintings, poems, writings.

Maybe they collab and Vince makes art for Ollie’s game. 💛
Please try to remember the 30th of #Octember!

TODAY'S QUESTION: What relic of your character in the far future is left behind?

A magic spear? A bone? A litany of broken toilet seats? What objects remain to keep their memory alive?

OC-tober Day 30: Different Style

I busted out the good ol’ charcoals for this one. Although I’m a bit rusty, I’m still quite happy with how this came out! I need to do a longer charcoal drawing at some point.

I like to think of it in the mind frame of sculpting or traditional charcoals. Putting in your darks is being 'additive' and bringing out light or bouncelights is 'subtractive'. I like roughly throwing in the shape of the shadow and refine it repeatedly if that makes any sense.

Thanks Luca- like I needed to try to learn another thing. (I do. I always do!)

Watched it 5x bookmarked and I have my sketch pad & charcoals out already. A well as assorted circle stencils to try bc i don't have the compass.

Pure noir suspense and high-stakes tension. It centres on a missing wartime Bugatti, so it needs deep shadows, dark charcoals, and the feeling that someone dangerous is right behind you.

Ghost Rider, about as grimdark as I get with Marvel United 🔥

Subtle blacks, charcoals and purples against the flames and skull. The fire is wet blended with a touch of airbrushed OSL, plus metallic drybrushing on the chrome.

Painted last Halloween, reshared for the season 🎃

What say I take you deep into the woods, away from the light pollution, away from the noise, away from all the people, all of society...

And then I'll make you a cake?

i mean i have used charcoals before. this was a charcoal still life still in process from 2020 but i never got to finish it because i left it at the studio during the "two weeks" we'd be taking off school. we know how that went. i had another one that was finished but idk where pics of that are.

That's not fair.... The other ones were overcooked. Only because you made it pitch black like charcoals.

What was I supposed to say?

Gee that's some good food Azula.

Yeah right....

showing up to the strip club with a canvas tote full of charcoals and a cold pressed paper so I can draw the dancers until I get beat up for being a performative male

Chris Van Allsburg is the guy who did the Jumanji and Zathura evil board game picture books they based movies off of but I remember finding this one and just being hypnotized by the gorgeous charcoals and weird little stories in each image. Definitely a good "how to look at art" book for kids.

Working on the shoe polish trick with the thrift store pheasants, it mostly just fills in the gaps with black so the details pop out. While I do literally use shoe polish here, I've done it with ink, acrylic, even charcoals before.

Yesterday I decided I wanted to start drawing again so I went to the art store to get some newsprint and charcoals. Here are my first two drawings after a 16 year hiatus.

Dang, I love the subtle shading on the brow and forehead, I should probably try some charcoals next. I don't think I've touched those since high school?

In our art with Andrew sessions today Year 6 have been creating Volcano landsacapes using charcoals, pencils and shading techniques to add detail to their artwork.

Like, learning French is like learning charcoals, learning Spanish is like learning graphite, Portuguese is like chalk pastels, Japanese is woodcarving and Chinese is stone carving. They each hone the artistic skills and can inform each other, but can mess each other up if you're stuck in a habit.

All my paper crafts, paints, pastels, charcoals, sketchbooks, and polymer clay tools are 100% sorted. I still need to sort my sewing patterns, but they’re all in one place. The jewelry supplies are a whole other deal. I imagine it will take another 6 hours to sort all that.

Drew the character my friend plays in our IRL OD&D game, an abomination of a druid!

Done in half an hour with charcoals.
