The friendly fraud article states without evidence that the increase in chargebacks is fraudulent and that consumers are doing chargebacks without first working with companies. But I've been doing more chargebacks precisely because companies are increasingly making it impossible to get support.

I don't buy that it's a problem with chargebacks for hypnosis. I've seen a few people say that, but they claim chargebacks are an issue across porn as a whole and I think that's where people are getting this idea from. The list of acts they don't like contains hypnosis, which they view as noncon

TikTok's latest illegal 'life hack' seems to be 'dispute credit card transactions for free stuff' and legality aside I am here to beg you: Do not do this to small businesses. It really fucks them over in ways you may not be aware of beyond stealing from them (which is, to be clear, what this is).🧵

How bad are chargebacks in porn really? I remember years ago a sex worker anecdotally remarking that gas stations have a higher frequency of chargebacks, and that porn chargebacks are largely overexaggerated.

For the love of god. Not only is it more convenient (the buyer doesn't need a PayPal account to pay it; any debit/credit card will work), you control exactly what shows up on the invoice so you don't risk a horny dipshit getting you banned by saying "thanks for the porn" or whatever.

Vaguely removed from the context in question, but I do think it matters explaining why this justification processors use of "risk of chargebacks" is complete and utter bullshit. In my 2 years on gumroad, I had ONE chargeback. Almost 1000 sales, and one single chargeback of 3 dollars.

There are payment processors who focus on adult content (otherwise selling porn and sextoys online would be near impossible). However, they charge higher fees and have vastly more draconian policies due to "increased risk" (of chargebacks, mostly)

(The rolling reserve is to cover chargebacks and disputes. All-in-one services take those out of your income if and when they happen; high risk merchant bank accounts want the money held so you can't disappear on them.)
