A British charity has successfully rescued two lions that were ripped from their mother at birth and kept as trophy pets in a conflict zone. Ben-Tzur and Ori, the young lions, were found tied to a tree and confined in a basement in Israel before being confiscated by authorities during a crackdown on wildlife trafficking. After months of delays due to Middle East conflicts, Animal Defenders International (ADI) facilitated their relocation to a 455-acre sanctuary in South Africa, where they now roam freely for the first time. The lions' journey involved a 50-hour flight from Israel via Cairo and Frankfurt, with ADI founders Jan Creamer and Tim Phillips personally overseeing their care during transit. The charity highlights the growing trend of exotic animals being kept as trophy pets on social media, often leading to animal suffering and premature deaths. ADI criticizes the practice, stating it undermines conservation efforts and deprives animals of natural habitats. The rescued lions are now part of a sanctuary housing nearly 40 big cats, marking a significant victory for wildlife welfare.
