#ChasingCoralChat @Zackropora has nailed what it's like to be a conservation biologist here- exciting news for your research is often terrible news for wildlife and wild places, and vice versa.

If you're participating in #ChasingCoralChat , have you ever been lucky enough to see a coral reef in person?

I'm a certified SCUBA diver and have gotten to visit reefs all over the world.

I took my wife on a glass bottom boat cruise near where this was filmed. It was alive coral when I was there as a middle school student. Now it's all algae covered rocks just like what they're showing here. Devastating. #ChasingCoralChat

"I started my career in love with a place. Those places have...diminished." Just a really powerful conversation with a coral expert here.

(I should warn y'all that this is an excellent film, but not a happy film.)

There’s Dr. Ruth Gates. The last time I saw this movie, I was on a panel with her after the movie at an environmental film festival. She passed away soon after. #ChasingCoralChat

These are, by FAR, the best images of coral polyps and zooxanthelle I've ever seen, a powerful illustration of the value of working with professional communicators. I've seen this movie five times and just gasped again. #ChasingCoralChat

Anyone who thinks scientists are cold and emotionless should listen to the reverence with which Dr. Ruth Gates talks about coral #ChasingCoralChat

Notice the theme here, not "I alone will expose the truth the so-called experts are covering up," but "experts need you to know this and I will help them communicate it by capturing amazing images they can't get" #Subtweet #ChasingCoralChat

Students, we talked about how hard it is to study life in the ocean in week 1, this problem (and how to solve it) is what they're talking about now. See I know stuff. #ChasingCoralChat

#ChasingCoralChat these images of coral are some of the most beautiful images I've ever seen. I've taken lots of pictures of coral reefs. They look fine. These are STUNNING!
