r/ChatGPTPro u/vurto • 28d If ChatGPT is not consistently dependable, how are we suppose to use it for actual work? Discussion It's behavior and results can randomly change due to some OpenAl tweaking that's opaque. On some days it can't even keep track of a fresh chat, it can't do calculations, it can't sort through a chat to extract relevant information, and when it's suppose to refer to source material in a PDF, it doesn't. All because OpenAl trained it for fluency and basically to simulate whatever it can for user satisfaction. I can use it for general chats, philosophical stuff, therapy, but nothing serious. I'm pro Al, but I approach it with skepticism knowing it's undependable (as I do with anything I read). And prompts can be interpreted/executed differently across users' own interaction with their Als so it's not truly scalable. How does the business world / leaders expect staff to adopt Al if it's not consistently dependable? It doesn't even calculate like a calculator. If the internet start claiming 2+2=5, that's what it'll answer with. I'd use it for hobbies and pet projects but I can't imagine using it for anything "mission critical".

Discussion I'm not really into horse racing, but I was at Saratoga this weekend with some friends and realized it would actually be a great way to test how well Al models handle real-world decision making. It may have been a total fluke that it worked out, but it made it a lot more fun! I just asked ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, and Perplexity to research the race and give me recommendations (minimal instructions). I wasn't there for all the races and didn't make all the bets, but I did the math on how they would have played out below and wish I did. Has anyone else tried this out? How did you do? gpt4.5 has a context window of 16k tokens on the free tier (per this: chatgpt.com/pricing), and the paid tier was routinely scaled down to 32k tokens (per: www.reddit.com/r/ChatGPTPro...).

"the behavior of organisms" is 130k words. these idiots slammed into a context window issue and didn't notice

got it (thx @mattweiner19.bsky.social ) and...oof, man. I believe it 100% to be well-intended, but this is not how you effectively use an LLM.

Methods Books, LLMs, and prompts ChatGPT For our first experiment, we used the free version of ChatGPT 4.5 as of Feb 5, 2025 with two books: B.F. Skinner’s The Behavior of Organisms (hereafter Behavior) and Dale Carnegie’s How to Stop Worrying and Start Living (hereafter Worrying). These books were selected because they were out of copyright, freely available as PDFs with optical character recognition via the Internet Archive (archive.org), under ChatGPT’s attachment file size limit, and had existing indexes for comparison. Our prompt: “Please create a professional-quality index for the attached book, using the same techniques that a professional indexer would use (e.g., including cross-references, subheadings, etc). Ignore the book's existing index; instead, create your own.” Perplexity and Claude Our second experiment used two LLMs with special intensive modes: Perplexity.AI with Deep Research Mode (the initial release in Feb 2025) and Claude 3 Opus. Perplexity and Claude had tighter file size limits than ChatGPT, so we used a shorter book from the Internet Archive: The Psychology of Day-Dreams, by J. Varendonck (hereafter Day-Dreams). For Claude, the book was still slightly over the file size limit, so we copied the text of the PDF into a text file and removed the last 57 pages. For Perplexity and Claude, we also included a PDF copy of the Criteria for the ASI Excellence in Indexing Award to provide the LLMs with indexing guidance. Our prompt: “Please create a professional-quality index for the attached book, using the same techniques that a professional indexer would use (e.g., including cross-references, subheadings, etc). Ignore the book's existing index; instead, create your own. Please ensure that the completed index adheres to the guidelines in the attached file.” Note that for Claude, the sentence about ignoring the book’s existing index was omitted, since the pages removed from the original for length reasons included the index.

5 replies to I can use chatGPT at work anymore, what do I do: 1. Consider an iPad that has data capabilities as well as WIFI. I have one and I would definitely use it for that situation. No network or WIFI. Just a data plan. 2. You should not be using a personal version of any LLM to do work if your employer doesn’t want you to - there is too much risk of PII or company confidential information becoming public. Speak to your company about authorized use of AI. 3. Heroin. 4. Use your phone w/ wifi disabled to access it and email the GPT results to yourself. None have any up or downvotes because it's such a new thread and is very funny and also upsetting to read thru lol

If anyone is willing to share links to conversations where things flowed really smoothly, or where the machine surprised you (positively) with its fluidity, or maybe a thread where you felt you spoke to it perfectly in order to create certain results... Honestly anything, l'm just really curious to see how OTHER creatives are talking to their little slice of the LLM. To be very honest I'd be interested in seeing failed attempts to guide the machine in your favor as well, seeing peoples errors is almost as useful as successes at this point in the tech's lifespan. So much to learn!

Discussion ChatGPT and other LLMs have been out for a while now and adoption has scaled exponentially but I just realized that we didn't actually realize how Al went from a gimmick to an integral part of our routine (at least mine because of my workflow depends on it for research, brainstorming, coding, analysis, etc.) so I was genuinely curious, was there a specific moment when it hit you that this whole Al thing is actually kind of wild? For me, it was when I casually asked ChatGPT to help structure an emall. ... and it ended up writing something better than I would have in 30 minutes. Felt like cheating and therapy at the same time or also when it helped summarize long docs in seconds that used to take me an hour sit and go through and also brainstorming is kinda crazy because it can show things from different perspectives and give objective opinions and totally transform the quality of your work, not to mention the code generation, debugging, analysis and so much more. What's your story and how was the shift for you from not using Al at all to suddenly integrating it into your daily workflow or thinking? Would love to hear the stories, big or small. Also curious if your relationship with it has changed over time (like initial hype → burnout → useful habit... or the reverse?) Where do you all think this is heading in your own lives?

r/ChatGPTPro u/cmcfalls2 • 2d Trying to turn my kids into Jedi but I keep hitting the content policy restriction wall. Help? Prompt I used ChatGPT to turn our two dogs into Star Wars characters (like Iconic Paw does). So I branched out to do the whole family. For myself and my wife I uploaded reference images of what we look like. ChatGPT handled it perfectly and only took a few iterations to nail the characters. But for my kids, I hit a major snag. I uploaded some reference images of both of them and the initial results were promising. We went thought MANY revisions for my daughter because ChatGPT kept struggling with the dual lightsaber style I was after. But suddenly...BOOM...everything I ask results in a response that it cannot generate the image because it violates the content policy restrictions. No idea why all of a sudden I'm hitting that wall. After the last successful generation I asked to expand the canvas to show the full saber blade and set the background to transparent. Nothing in that edit should violate a content policy. So what gives? What's the workaround? How can I finalize the portraits of my kids for this project?
