I was too and I’m not. We’ve lost our canals, Jodrell Bank and it would mean too long a drive to get a pork pie from Chatwins.

Ich liebe da meinen kleinen Buchladen um die Ecke, Chatwins in der Goltzstr. Berlin-Schöneberg. Was sie nicht haben wird bestellt und ist am nächsten Tag schon da. Wenn ich was verschenke, mach ich das über genialokal.de
Die kleinen inhabergeführten Buchhandlungen stecken deutschlandweit in einer tiefen Krise. Ihnen fehlt es schlicht an Kunden. Warum werden sie nicht mehr als die kulturellen Knotenpunkte gewürdigt, die sie sind? Wem ist der stationäre Buchhandel wichtig genug, um diesen Beitrag zu teilen?

Jag kan gå dagar ut att prata med någon. När jag var i runt 20 ville jag flytta till Eldslandet, hade iofs aldrig varit där bara läst Bruce Chatwins In Patagonia, men idag har jag barn och har blivit lite bekväm. Kanske är en lockelse att slippa känna sig socialt misslyckad (på ett eller flera plan)

When Chester has so many great independent and locally based bakeries eg Chatwins & Gerrards, I really have no idea why people are attracted to Greggs.

Apropos Ovid and Downunder. I just reread Bruce Chatwins brilliant “novel” Songlines. He tells that he is travelling Australia with Ovid Metamorphosis in his pocket and make some intriguing parallels between Ovid and Aboriginal mythology.
