As far as I can tell from scattered articles, the Chatra visible above may not have been original to the structure. The Indonesian government had plans this year(!) to reinstall it. But it's been stalled by archeologists citing a lack of study and information

Public talk abstract: "Nepalese painted scrolls (paubhā) often serve to commemorate the performance of particular rituals. Apart from their aesthetic value, these paintings deserve close study as important witnesses for the history of Nepalese Buddhism. To substantiate this point, the talk will focus on scroll paintings (from the 15th to the 18th cent.) commemorating the donation of a new honorific parasol (chattra) to the Svayambhū caitya of Kathmandu. The paintings to be examined depict not only the stūpa itself but also the surrounding shrines, which arguably reflect the autochthonous origins of the site of Svayambhū."

The Great Stupa at Sanchi. The stūpa consists of a hemispherical dome (anda) and a square base (harmikā), topped by a spire (chattra). The stūpa is surrounded by a stone railing and four gateways, or toranas (built from the 1st c. BCE to the 1st c. Small Pala-period stone stele with rounded top, carved with the figure of Shakyamuni Buddha in vajraparyanka (posture of meditation), on a lotus throne, with a foliate chattra (tree-shaped parasol) above the mandorla, and miniature stupas on either side. The Buddha makes the Bhumisparsa Mudra, or Earth-Touching Gesture, with his right hand, making reference to his calling of the earth goddess to witness in the moments before his Enlightenment at Bodh Gaya. The tree above his head appears to refer to the Bodhi tree, beneath which he meditated prior to gaining Enlightenment. Condition: the surface of the stone is well worn. There are chips in the hair, nose and right eye of the figure and the fingers of the left hand.
