Ich war während der Busfahrt schon skeptisch… das Gleis sah nicht sonderlich befahren raus. Tatsächlich, bleibt die Strecke mindestens bis Ende Jahr nach großen Unwettern im August unterbrochen. 😥

Nach einer sehr anstrengenden Bergetappe ging es dann nur noch an der Hauptstrasse entlang, inklusive Gegenwind. 🫩 Das hat echt null Spaß gemacht heute.

Checheng is the last stop along the Jiji Railway Line in Nantou, and includes a touristy old street and shopping area, restored historical Japanese buildings, from when the town was a logging hub.

Viele Palmen entlang der Busstrecke Über ein ausgetrocknetes Flussbett. An der Brücke sind eine Art Manga-Figürchen angebracht. Angekommener Bus am Bahnhof Checheng.

99 km 🙏🏻 Ab der Hälfte der Strecke heute wurde es dann an der Küste auch einigermaßen schön.

* ausstehend sind einige Gadget-/Zuckerbahnen, größere Teile der Metro Taipei. Ebenso die Strecke Ershui - Checheng, die seit einigen Jahren wegen Unwettern teils unterbrochen ist, demnächst aber wieder vollständig in Betrieb gehen soll. Diese möchte ich alle bei einer nächsten Reise nachholen.^^

@bodhiexplorers.bsky.social Random Nantou travel suggestion: ride the Jiji line to Checheng and check out the village and the wood museum. It's a really quaint place with amazing scenery. Wuchang Temple in Jiji itself is also cool to see.

My first time on a token controlled section of railway: Between Ershui and Zhuoshui stations on the Jiji branch line of Taiwan Railway. The tokens are still in use from the Japanese colonial period. Both Wikipedia and the guy at the museum in Checheng didn’t know about this. Elite ball knowledge.
