Chessbook iPhone app now sends you a notification the moment your Lichess game ends to tell you that you played the opening wrong

Chessbook is awesome, especially for repertoire building. For spaced repetition and the like, Chess Tempo makes a great pairing...especially given the immense value of all of its often overlooked features beyond that and its stellar tactics system (endings, guess the move, custom books, etc.)

My friend who’s a Chessbase true believer uses Chessbook for storing/drilling openings.

Sounds like a neat feature but cumbersome to generate the pgn - Chessbook just goes and gets your games from Lichess and chesscom automatically.

rlly been enjoying this app as a tool for memorizing chess openings, lets u add lines to ur repertoire and practice them with spaced repetition (and has v useful info like how games are typically played after an opening, if a line is theory heavy or has a "rare but dangerous" trap)

Game Changer!
You can now generate a complete opening repertoire in a few minutes on Qchess.net and then upload it to Lichess, ChessBook, or Chessable.
The repertoire is based on the Elite Database (2+ million master games), the Lichess user games DB, and engine analysis.

You can export to PGN from both Chessbook and Lichess studies.

Thank you! It indeed did! I found my first-ever chessbook "Chess Fundamentals" from Capablanca. My grandmother gave it to me as birthday gift and thus initiated a cascade of events :)

It's a lot of work! About halfway there I think. Using chessbook.

Chessbook.com. I have my repertoire there. It keeps track of my mistakes on my lichess and chesscom accounts and my performance by opening.

Who else is planning holiday projects for their time off?

1. Shoot and edit a family holiday video 📹
2. Add a new opening to ChessBook to practice this year ♟️
3. Run a model from Gitlab on my laptop 💻
4. Configure NAS for family media archive project with my uncle 🗃️

So I got curious about this platform ChessBook. It offered a pretty exciting feature of finding opening mistakes in my games...

Do you prefer Chessbook so far? I looked at it a while ago when it was very new and still a work in progress
January 3, 2025 at 2:32 PM
Thanks! Getting to 1200 was mostly about getting rid of bad habits and learning a few basic systems. 1200 to 1500 took more intense practicing, but my real breakthrough came with the ChessBook app. I didn't have time to read and study lots of books, but I can practice openings 10 min/day

Yeah, Chessbook. Spaced repetition is crucial, otherwise you just forget. (Caveat is that memorizing opening moves is not all that important for improvement - I do it because I enjoy it)

Heh I remember that app, from many moons ago. I’ve only really used ChessTempo for the tactics, I should really explore the other stuff. Tried ChessBook which is also independent but can’t really get my head round it.

I feel you there. I have a sizable Chessable library. Though recently I’ve been using ChessBook. It’s really great for openings and their free membership is actually really good. I haven’t spent a dime.

Makes me sad that after all this time Chessable still only has a half baked SRS algorithm. There have been some tweaks to the UI here and there but next to nothing has been done to improve it's effectiveness. Chessbook has a good SRS algorithm but it's confusing and only for openings. *sigh*
