And definitely the Chichicapa over Vida. Vida is basically well mezcal at this point (which is why your teacher suggested it)

Maguey Chichicapa is a pretty well known entry point. The Ilegals will treat you fine! I dunno if I would call them sippers, but for cocktails, totally solid!

It came back here at a less astronomical price, which would have seemed a little high before, but given world events might be our last chance for a while. Anyway, i still had some Chichicapa i'd held on to for this reason, and went for it.

I was making a drink with Chichicapa, Zucca Rabarbaro and Torino Vermouth, which is a great combo. I should dig up the recipe.

The Chichicapa is key to this. It has a unique smoky taste that is almost like barbecue. I was lucky to find a couple of bottles at a steep discount, and am mixing these with the last of it.
