"Touch grass" is a particularly odd phrase in Kansas. If you ever actually touch grass here, 10 Kansans will come out of nowhere to warn you "there could be chiggers there."
“Touch grass” is a great phrase but we need a saying for the nimbus of calm that descends upon you when you sit in a public library for an hour.

I don’t know if other states chiggers, but the only place I’ve been attacked by chiggers is texas. Even without the racist government, texas will forever be my most hated state.

Typhus and typhoid fever are different diseases.
Typhus is spread by lice, chiggers, and fleas, it used to be called Jail Fever because that's where you found it: cramped deliberately unsanitary crowded places.
*Typhoid* is Salmonella, spread by unclean water. Also found in those conditions.
