About the Breed The Chihuahua is not only one of the smallest dog breeds but also boasts an impressively spirited personality that captures the hearts of many. Renowned as a national symbol of Mexico, Chihuahuas are one of the oldest breeds in the Americas, tracing their ancestry back to the rich civilizations of pre-Columbian times. These petite companions typically weigh no more than 6 pounds yet possess a balanced and poised demeanor, reminiscent of their terrier origins.
