I think this is possibly Choristoneura hebenstreitella, a scarce moth locally. A nice selection of moths (70 Species) in my VC29 Garden this morning others included Ghost moth, Dark Spectacle and Scorched Wing #teammoth

Trapping away from home in Botley Wood last night. 60/40 species. By the end I was so inundated with insects I packed up early! Best moth I found on another’s sheet was Agrotera nemoralis, a stunning crambid and uncommon. Best of rest Small Angle Shades, Choristoneura hebenstreitella, CbGP #teammoth

44/23 in Farnham Park last night. Obscure Wainscot, Leucania obsoleta. A rather smart Choristoneura hebenstreitella. Grey Birch Aethalura punctulata and a delightful Scorched Wing, Plagodis dolabraria. #teammoth

🌲🦋 Climate Change Fuels Pest Expansion

Climate change is driving a northward shift in spruce budworm populations, increasing reproduction in northern forests while raising winter mortality in the south.

Western Spruce Budworm Moth (Choristoneura occidentalis) is the most destructive defoliator of coniferous forests in western North America. Severe defoliation by this moth can weaken trees, making them vulnerable to bark beetle attacks.

D’autre part, au sein de ces écosystèmes, certains compétiteurs des parasites sont décimés par les traitements, et n’assurent alors plus leur rôle dans le maintien d’un équilibre relatif.
