after about 2 days, we're already halfway there in terms of latitude. a far damn cry from sailing the opposite direction for weeks and barely getting this far.

reading longitude is much harder under so much sail, as the deck pitches a lot. I'm apparently somewhere between 1W and 7W. (probably 3.5W)

I am preparing to undergo my first ocean crossing in sailwind. here is a tour of my new sanbuq. see alt text for what's up with each.

this evening I will be deciding on a course and cargo, and beginning voyager from the first episode.

here I begin to get a little concerned. I am reasonably sure I'm somewhere around 39-40N, 0.5-0W. I should see the very large volcano at the southern end of Aestrin. but... nothing?

This means that if you are confident in your latitude reading, you can use that dial to set the chronocompass and read the longitude without having to worry about lining the shadows up precisely. Neat.
