Chumocracy?

🇺🇸 {𝐚𝑱𝑺𝑫} “𝐂𝐡𝐮𝐦𝐨𝐜𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐲” is a word: rule by cronies.

Naturally, I wondered whether “𝘴𝘤𝘶𝘮𝘰𝘤𝘳𝘢𝘤𝘺” is one, too.

If not, current events are making a strong case for its admission to the dictionary.

No I was interested because I've seen a fair number of folk wading into the Liddle debate - on the other site that shall not be named - myself included. He was a boorish, myogynistic contrarian who the male media chumocracy appears bizarrely to have put up on a journalistic pedestal!!

"right wing chumocracy" fits terfs to a T
August 4, 2026 at 1:43 PM
Haven't seen any myself in the media hagiography of Liddle. All seems to be blokes in the right-wing media chumocracy. I'm sure as an evidence based academic you can put me right on this.

Skimmed the Kay Burley and Harriet Harman discussion on Sky's Youtube. An example of what's wrong with the politics-media chumocracy. Both hideously out of touch. As always Harman's only skill is selling Harman.

If I recall correctly there was a "set" centred around Chipping Norton. Not a very democratic organisation but more of a chumocracy. What influence it had on policy I do not know.

Rewarding failure! Anas Sarwar was elected as an MSP. He should do his job or get out of politics entirely until the next election. It's a chumocracy.

Silver lining if his place is taken by Monica Lennon.

That looks like rewarding failure! It also looks like a chumocracy. AS should do his 5y as MSP as he was elected to do so.

Victoria Adams must think we have amnesia!! @vicderbyshire.bsky.social where is the challenge? Austerity, Brexit, Tory Chumocracy
June 22, 2026 at 9:41 PM
Part of that toxic Tory chumocracy (conscious choice over my order of adjectives). They all fail upwards either bc it's Party before country, or they all have something they can pull out against the others, so promotions are the only way of keeping each other silent.

He’s deluded and forgets we suffered and lived through Tory;
Austerity
HS2
Brexit
Covid chum contracts
Reduction in all public services and largest tax rises resulting in lowest living standards for years
Prison crisis
Dental deserts
Stuffing BBC with Tory acolytes
Low/ no growth

yes I think in general the chumocracy bends to the will of nondom/foreign media owners, like Blair and Starmer visiting Murdoch.

Maybe that's not all bad.
One of our biggest problems in the UK is the chumocracy. Maybe someone outside of that who isn't in the network of favours and gentleman's rules would be able to tell us new things.
Granted the first foreign owner who comes to mind is Murdoch, so perhaps not!
