Beverly Hills City Hall at Crescent Dr & Santa Monica Blvd, seen here circa 1936, was constructed in 1931/32 as the Great Depression was hitting rock bottom. It was built in “California Churrigueresque” style - and if you can pronounce that second word, I tip my hat to you. ("now" photo May 2024)

The "Million Dollar" was the first movie house built by entrepreneur Sid Grauman in 1918 as the first grand cinema palace in Los Angeles. Sculptor Joseph Mora did the elaborate and surprising exterior Spanish Colonial Revival ornament, including bursts of lavish Churrigueresque decoration.
LA is home to the Broadway Theatre District, with over a dozen historic movie palaces. One of these landmarks is Sid Grauman's 1918 Million Dollar Theatre. Sid would eventually become more well-known for his Hollywood Boulevard theaters that included the Egyptian, Grauman's Chinese, and El Capitan.
