Every time I hear about Circassia, I struggle to comprehend the pain. They completely erased a country with vibrant culture and long history, murdered millions, displaced the rest and NOBODY CARED. So russians never change. Ukraine recognised the Circassian genocide, long overdue.

Even putting aside the genocidal crimes of European powers in the Americas, there were plenty of European-led genocides before the Holocaust. Does the Democratic Republic of Congo not exist? Or Namibia? Or Ireland? Or Circassia? Or Ukraine?

This might be a feasible distinction but afaict the UN convention against genocide specifically includes both and expulsion can often entail mass death (e.g. in Circassia) so it’s not a clean division imo.
