My consistent answer to the easiest and most effective climate change solution: "voting"

Stay informed, and get involved in your community. Your voice matters.

Today on Volts: most of cleantech world seems to have accommodated itself to giant AI data centers, but @ketanjoshi.co is having none of it. He's been a relentless critic, tracking the hyperscalers' broken climate promises, rising emissions, & abysmal community relations. We get into all of it.

I’ve been speaking recently about why its so important to have #community support in a rapidly changing #climate (TV3, NZH, Australia’s Climate Adaptation event) - with thanks to the Otago Daily Times for this extended reflection (paywalled but here’s the first part) www.odt.co.nz/life-and-sty...

Last night we had a community showing of the People's Emergency Briefing Climate Film at Rewley House. After the film we had several of our @lifelong-learning.ox.ac.uk teaching experts answer community questions.
Very inspiring to discuss climate action!

Whimsy, delight and a sense of community is especially important when every election is like "vote or they will steal your rights, destroy the climate and kill your neighbors". They want us demoralized. We have to find and generate joy wherever we can! So give me the damn sticker! 🤩
I can answer this:

Adding whimsy, delight, a sense of community & a human touch to what can often be a challenging, stressful & time consuming process of civic engagement through voting or other matters of collective health is a necessary form of protecting the integrity of our democratic processes

Kathy Hochul's disdain for the environment goes further. The NY governor has the unusual, undemocratic power to unilaterally demand legislation - not allowed in other states.

This year, she used that power to roll back NY's landmark climate justice law.

Summary: Natural climate solutions (NCS) increase community resistance/resilience to plant invasions. Successful control of plant invasions, in turn, eases further NCS implementation. This feedback could increase carbon storage & generate benefits for biodiversity. iopscience.iop.org/article/10.1...

Oh Shannon I'm so sorry. I've moved away from the kidlit community in the past few years, I had no idea that things had escalated in this way. I guess knowing what I know about book banners and the current political climate it's not that surprising, but still I'm horrified for you, all.

Unfair, Ray.
Nordhaus got the economics community to take climate change seriously. He underestimated current costs of climate change (by neglecting extreme events), but he did get the economics/policy world to take the issue seriously and (on some accounts) introduced 2C as a focal point.

For me, what all of the hullaballoo over the asexual flag revealed was how badly the community needs intersectionality, and how much it needs to unite to fight fascism, white supremacy, climate change, and genocide. We need to do better.
Don't like it; don't adopt it. Like it, use it. Stripe meaning solved. Okay, now let's move on to opposing fascism and amatonormativity in an ongoing geopolitical crisis with consequential initiatives toward the intersectional collective liberation we urgently need. (hint: 1/3 of us are also trans!)
