New study LA fires: “Conditions are up to 5°C warmer, 15% drier & 20% windier now compared to past. We ascribe the strengthened winds, higher temps & drier conditions to human-driven climate change. Natural climate variability likely played a minor role.” www.climameter.org/20250107-08-...

Invasive species are a huge problem

We should not fight Climate Change by promoting invasion!
In most places it is a BAD idea

Yes, we can have extreme cold even though the climate is warming.

Baby, it's cold outside, yet:
"Both 2023 and 2024 have successively been the hottest years humans have ever measured by a wide margin." and 2025 is off to a record pace as well.

I met a high-level industry scientist and we discussed his company's emissions.

I said, "why do you do this, even though you know it's destroying the planet?"

He said, "I won't be here when it all goes to sh!t. Why should I care?"

And this, folks, is what we are up against.

Eep! This is scary.

It's not just the polar bears that are suffering from decreased sea ice extent (and duration).

#ClimateChange🧪🌎
Monday ice update - #Arctic sea ice extent is currently the *lowest* on record (JAXA data)

• about 570,000 km² below the 2010s mean
• about 1,140,000 km² below the 2000s mean
• about 1,670,000 km² below the 1990s mean
• about 2,040,000 km² below the 1980s mean

Climate scientists predicted that heatwaves would become so frequent that ecosystems would not have time to recover between heatwave events.

That time is here, not in the nebulous future.

My research shows it, others show it.

We can slow down warming, save Life, and save us.

Don't give up. Choose your battles wisely and target your efforts. Keep up the good fight.

We knew.

113 years. And we still keep doing the same. Yes, we have renewables. Yes, there is habitat restoration. Yes, we recycle.

But we increase our resource use. We destroy more habitat. Our emissions are still extinction-level. Pollution still grows.

Teachers, what do you think?

I see a trend in current undergrad-masters' students: they don't care who caused climate/biodiversity problems. They want to fix the problems.

They want to collaborate broadly, even beyond academia, not isolated in a lab. And they crave advocacy.

That's why I started my free newsletter Talking Climate. Every week I share good news, not so good news, and what people can do.

1C rise on this scale in a very, very short time frame from a geological perspective.

This is mass extinction-scale climate change.

Anthropogenically-accelerated climate change is ultimately leading to a warmer Earth faster than is natural, but the process is one of chaos and instability, like our recent deep-freeze and snowfall in the U.S. and Canada.
#ClimateChange🧪🌎
Can global warming increase snowfall? Greater evaporation from warming oceans increases atmospheric water vapor. More water vapor increases total precipitation during many kinds of storms, including winter storms. Read our newest feature story for more. Link in comments.
