15th century doorway • Clonmacnoise • Offaly
This fine doorway into the cathedral of Clonmacnoise features carvings of St Dominic, St Patrick & St Francis.
A Latin inscription indicates that a dean Odo commissioned the work. Odo, also known as Dean O’ Malone, died in 1461.

Clonmacnoise has a large number of early medieval gravemarkers. This one in the National Museum of Ireland bears the name Sechnasach.
It is unusual as it is made from a mill stone for grinding flour.
Perhaps evidence of early Irish recycling!
