Pencil sketch of a comic page. Panel 1 - The brass blade says "You can't...!" in shock as we see Clove's hand crumpling the sheet of orders into a ball. Panel 4 - Closeup of Clove's hand on the hilt of her rapier, pulling an inch of the blade free, ready to draw. "...As the blood you'll stake to enforce them." Panel 5 - A tense standoff. The Brass Blades on the left, Clove on the right with the refugees behind her. The Blades leader holds a hand out in front of his men. Panel 1 - One of the Blades grits his teeth and begins to draw his sword as Clove advances, radiating power as she prepres to draw herself. The captain shouts, "S...stay your blade!" Panel 2 - Clove draws her blade in a blink, the tip of her rapier pressed to the captain's neck. He holds his hands up in surrender. "Smart choice," she says, "You saved your life, and your men's." Panel 3 - Perspective of the Brass Blade captain, Clove's rapier blade coming into the camera. Her face is a mask of fury as she barks, "Now, go back and tell those Syndicate toads these refugees aren't so easy to push around. Not so long as I'm here."

The nightmares can wait - they'll be back! Now, it's time to spring into action!

#CloveArt #CloveComics
Pencil sketch of a comic page. Panel 1 - Clove, sweating profusely and in distress, still asleep. Her muzzle is crinkled in concern, and she mutters "No... Please... I didn't... didn't want..." In the background, a young hyur boy runs down the alley to her, yelling "Clove!" Panel 2 - Clove starts awake with a "guh??". She's in the alley in Pearl Lane still. A bunch of handbills are plastered to the wall behind her, advertising what appears to be an upcoming blitzball match between two heated rivals know for their sparks in and out of the water. The young man stand before clove and points back the way he came. "We need you outside the gate!! The Brass Blades are trying to clear the encampment!" Panel 3 - Closeup of Clove's eyes, burning with anger. "They WHAT?" Panel 4 - She leaps to her feet, rapier in hand. "Lead the way, Delwyn!" Panel 5 - Wide shot of an Ul'dah street, Clove and Delywn sprinting to the Gate of Nald. Panel 1 - Wide shot of Stonesthrow, the refugee encampment on the gates of Ul'dah. Tents are being pulled down and residents are in tense standoffs with armed ruffians. Panel 2 - An armored Brass Blade with his hand on his sword holds up a written order and shouts - "By order of the Syndicate! This illegal encampment must DISPERSE, at once!" Panel 3 - He continues speaking but is cut off. "I... eh?" A hand reaches in and snags the orders from his gloved fingers, crunching them into a careless ball. "Let me take at that, will you?" Panel 4 - Clove stands, trying to look cool and aloof, her rage betrayed by the whipping of her tail. She looks over the orders before saying "Hmm..... hmm-mm.. Yeah... no, that's basically what I expected."

Clove curls up in an alley in Pearl Lane, leaning against a wall, her backpack used as a pillow. Her mind drifts off, where it always does, to the Garlean fortifications surrounding her home of Bozja. A younger Clove, dressed in the gear of a Bozjan resistance fighter, stands under the moonlight on a cobbled street. Dark shades surround her, crowding the sidewalks, looking at her, pointing, staring. They whisper amongst themselves - it's her her fool should have...when she had the chance her your fault to blame failrue Clove looks down the narrow Bozjan street, at a figure in white disappearing around the far corner. She tries to reach for her, begins to step forward. The moon grows large in the sky. The shadowed figures continue to gather, their whispering growing louder and more insistent. fool fraud monster it's HER her coward Rose killer Clove She runs down the dark street, the figure staying just out of reach at the next corner, trying to shout, but unable to make any noise. it's HER waste hate HER SHAME done SOMETHING HER CLOVE KILLER, MONSTER HER FAULT think she is...? Debts always come due, no matter how far you spread them around town, and somebody always wants a share of the working woman's coin.

#CloveArt #CloveComics
Pencil sketch of a comic page. Panel 1- Clove leans against a counter, under a sign makred "leve dealer." A lalafell peers through her leveplate while reaching into a large box of coins. Panel 2 - The dealer distributes a small handful of coins into a set of scales with a "CLNK CLNK" Panel 3 - The dealer tosses a small sack of coins onto the counter, where it makes a plaintive, underwhelming "clnk." Panel 4- Clove hefts the sack in her hands, looking at it disapprovingly. "Um... Hahajuco, this... can't be everything? There's barely 500 gil here." Hahajuco replies with a stern expression, "I'm afraid that's quite all." Panel 5 - Hahajuco pulls out a ledger and runs his finger down the page as he reads. "Let's see... the usual fee, less a levy by the Brass Blades to repair damage incurred in a brawl, payment on bar tabs across the city, room and board owed at the Quick Sand, taxes to the Sultanate, operating licenses owed to the Syndicate... hm, actually, you'll need to give me 215 gil back to cover the advance we offered last time." Panel 6 - Clove pushes up her glasses and pinches the bridge of her nose. "Gunnhildr's tits, damn it all... Guess I'll sleep in Pearl Lane tonight then." Full-page pencil sketch. Clove walks down Emerald Avenue in Ul'dah, her bag over one shoulder, rapier belt carried in the other. A couple of adventurers sit on a bench, telling tales and laughing; scattered other individuals mill about their business.

Pencil sketch of a comic page. Panel 1 - The carriage rolls along, Clove passed out on one bench with her booze, the twins muttering to each other at the other. Panel 2 - Alphinaud looks concerned as Alisaie vigorously exclaims, "You saw how she fought! We need people like her." Panel 3 - Wide shot of the carriage approaching Uldah. The domes and towers of the city rise out of the desert and surrounding cliffs. Alphinaud responds, "I won't deny her skills, Alisaie, but she seems... hardly reliable." Panel 4 - The miqote cart driver speaks over his shoulder to the twins. "You talkin' bout ol' Clove? Don't get me wrong, she's a headache..." Panel 5 - Clove, pretending to be asleep, cracks one eye open. The driver continues, "...But I've known no one more fearless or reliable." Panel 1 - The driver turns to look back at the twins. "Well, this is the last stop - Ul'dah." Panel 2 - A figure leads the chocobo away from the carriage, the twins are seen disembarking. Panel 3 - Alphinaud's carbuncle hops out of the back of the carriage, athwart of where a small stepladder has been placed. One of the twins can be seen exiting stage left. The driver raps on the edge of the carriage to get Clove's attention, who sits up, blearily rubbing at her eyes, hair tousled. "Up you get, Clove, if you're wanting paid. And, uh... watch your step, ok?"

She's not from Ala Mhigo.

Will I eventually practice Alisaie and Alphinaud to draw them in a recognizable and consistent way? Maybe someday!

#CloveArt #CloveComics
Pencil sketch of a comic page. Panel 1 - wide shot of the Thanalan desert. The chocobo carriage rocks perilously in the waft of wind from Clove's verflare, a smoking crater and falling debris all that remains of the fiend Panel 2 - Alisaie excitedly cheers. 'Ahh!! HAHA!! Ahaha, YES!! Alphinaud, did you... Hahaha!!' Panel 3 - Clove fans the dust from her face and coughs aggressively before sputtering 'Ack, thrice-damned desert...' Panel 4 - Clove climbs back into the carriage. Alisaie screams 'That was INCREDIBLE!' Alphinaud chimes in, 'A most rousing performance, indeed!' Panel 5 - Clove pulls her shirt back on, sayibg something but her speech is muffled by the fabric over her mouth. Panel 1 - Alphinaud looks toward Clove, now dressed and seated and putting her hair up. 'Uh... I didn't catch that.' Clove responds, 'The man who trained me was from Ala Mhigo. But I'm not.' Alphinaud answers, 'I see... Where do you hail from, then?' Panel 2 - Clove looks sadly down at her lap, one hand opening her backpack. She is silent. She reflects on a field of blown crystal and shattered ruins. Panel 3 - she rummage in her bag silently. Panel 4 - she pulls a bottle of whiskey out of the bag, pulls out the cork with her teeth and spits it over the side. She sadly intones, '...nowhere worth remembering, kiddo.'

Pencil drawing of a comic page. Panel 1 - full-page-height drawing of Clove, her shirt popped off to reveal a sports bra, a powerfully muscled torso, and a dense web of scars. She has several prominent puncture scars around her abdomen, spiderwebbing out to a series of other cuts, lacerations, scratches, and bullet holes. She's got an arcane focus floating above her left hand and her right rests on the hilt of the rapier she planted into the floorboard. She has an intense expression as she says, "Right... let's get to work." Panel 2 - Alphinaud in his seat with his carbuncle on his lap, looking thoughtful. He ponders, "An arcane focus... and not a sword, but a rapier. Uncouth behavior aside, could she be of Ala Mhigo's fabled red mages?" Panel 3 - Alisaie leans back with her arms behind her head, legs crossed casually, a small smile forming on her face. "Well, if that's true, maybe we're in for a worthwhile show after all." Panel 4 - Closeup of Clove's face, eyes narrowing dangerously as she prepares for action Pencil drawing of a comic page. Panel 1 - Clove squats into a starting position, hands wide, rapier held tight, a burst of energy radiating around her. Panel 2 - Clove begins dashing, the force of her sprint leaving a burst of wind in her wake as she executes the Corps a Corps technique. Panel 3 - Alphinaud and Alisaie look on. Alphinaud and Carbuncle look shocked as Alph declares "Such speed!" while Alisaie cheers with a "Now THIS is more like it!" Panel 4 - Wide profile angle of the chocobo carriage as Clove dashes to the end of the passenger deck... and with a definite TINK catches the toe of her boot on the lip designed to keep passenger's belonging from rolling off the back of the cart. Her arms pinwheel for balance as she lets out a plaintive MROW of panic and begins to pitch forward. Panel 5 - Clove faceplants into the desert floor with a resonating SLAM and a cloud of dust. Panel 6 - Alisaie looks disappointed as she mutters "...Ah."

#CloveArt #CloveComics
Pencil sketch of a comic page. Panel 1 - some type of Ziz-type fiend screeches at the carriage chocobo who gives a protestful Kweh Panel 2 - Clove's backpack and whiskey bottle sit on the bench as a wobbly 'ow' rises up out of the frame. A rapier can be seen tucked under the bench. Panel 3 - high angle above the carriage looking down. Clove lies on the floor sprawled out, the carbuncle sniffing at her. Alphinaud asks 'Should we...' and alisaie interrupts 'Do not even try to drag me into this.' Panel 4 - the driver shouts back over his shoulder, 'Seven hells, woman! If you let this chocobo get eaten...!' Panel 5 - Clove lying on the floor, looks up at the ceiling with a roll of her eyes. 'Da, da, I heard you the first time,' she grumbles. Panel 6 - Clove reaches out and grabs the rapier. Panel 7 - Clove struggles to her knees, crawling up against the bench, dizzy. She burps with an 'oh gods' before saying 'Блять, hold the cart still, will you?' She reaches out and grabs hold of the whiskey bottle with a muttered 'come to mama, baby' Panel 1 - Clove stands and stretches out her shoulder before realizing there's still a good amount in her whiskey bottle. Panel 2 - She glugs it down in a series of gulps. Panel 3 - she holds the empty bottle upside down over her mouth, eyes narrowing at the last drop judgmentally. 'Tch, typical.' she mutters Panel 4 - Clove dramatically smashes the bottle on the floor of the carriage. Alphinaud says '...Ah.' while Alisaie covers her face with her palm and an 'oh, good grief.' Panel 5 - the rapier thunks into the deck of the carriage tip first. Panel 6 - Alisaie speaks to Alphinaud - 'And now she's dropped her sword. Alphinaud, I have little interest in watching a defenseless drunk... *Now* what is she doing?' Panel 7 - Clove starts pulling off her sweater. Her belly is heavily scarred. Panel 8 - Alphinaud covers his eyes and gasps 'Oh, Thaliak...' Alisaie snorts and throws back her head with a derisive laugh. 'Ok, this is too much.' Panel 9 - Clove's back as she lifts her sweater. She's got a bra on, chat, so Alphinaud's innocence is preserved. Her back is also heavily scarred.

Started working on a comic for my daily sketchbook page a couple weeks back, and I finally got caught up scanning them in so I'm gonna post a couple pages a day. Just going in with no plan or script on these so they're kind of a mess.

Page 1 and 2 - Somewhere in Thanalan...
#CloveArt #CloveComics
pencil sketch of a comic page. panel 1 - wide shot of a desert, cactus in the foreground (and a lil cactuar), cliffs in the background, a chocobo carriage rolling across center frame. text "Somewhere in Thanalan..." panel 2 - shot of the carriage's passenger area. On the left, two young Elezen sit, one reading a book with a carbuncle by his feet, the other hanging an arm over the carriage while she groans "Are we there yet?" Across from them, a Hrothgar woman sleeps, a bottle of whiskey in one hand, holding her backpack to her side with the other. Panel 3 - Closeup of the woman's face, eyes clenched and a frown on her face. She mumbles and groans in her sleep, whispering "No..." Panel 4 - A dark void in which a great crystal hangs, a tiny, insignificant figure below it Panel 5 - The moon Dalamud descends, beginning to break up, drowing the world in red flame and shooting streaks of debris across the sky. The Hrothgar woman's eyes bulge open and she shouts "NO!" Panel 6 - The hrothgar woman pants heavily. The two Elezen and the carbuncle all stare at her in alarm. Panel 7 - She grabs her face and groans "Gunnhildr, my head..." From off screen, a gentle voice asks "Uh... miss?" A scanned pencil-drawn comic page. Panel 1 - The hazy, groggy hrothgar woman squints her eyes at the source of the voice, asking "Huh?... Whazzat?" Panel 2 - She sees two young hrothgar teens, about fifteen or sixteen summers. The left asks her "Are you OK, miss?" while the other looks unimpressed as she replies "*Must* we get involved?" Clove mumbles back, "Wha... ki...? No, wait..." Panel 3 - Top-down shot of Clove fumbling for her glasses. The quarter-full whiskey bottle clanks against the bench. Panel 4 - She grabs her glasses, carelessly scraping them against the bench before awkwardly fumbling them on. Panel 5 - She squints against the bright light as things start to come into focus. Panel 6 - The hrothgar children resolve into the faces of Alisaie and Alphinaud Leveilleur. Alphinaud reitates his earlier 'Miss?' to which Alisaie scowls "She's just plastered, Alphinaud." Panel 7 - Clove sits back with a small smile. "Well, she's... s'not wrong. Yep... And, I'm fine. Just this heat gives me... strange dreams." Before she can say more, the cart lurches to a halt and she is thrown to the floor with a BAM. Panel 8 - The driver shouts over his shoulder, "Fiend on the road ahead, Clove! Time to earn your fare, if you can stand!"

Been getting into making comics recently; it's a great way to practice and flex both drawing and writing at the same time.
Here's a lil sketchbook mini-comic done with no plan about Clove and Bev having an unexpected reunion with someone they used to know...
#CloveArt #CloveComics #ClovesSketchbook
Est. Shot - Claudia's, Monarch City est. 1997 Window advertises breakfast, lunch, and cocktails. They're open. Cut inside to Clove the lioness and her possum partner Bev sitting at a table with plates of food. Bev has a beer and grins up at Clove as she listens to her story. Clove is finishing up - 'So I come in, and Stone's entire ass is on fire. Like, fully ablaze.' Bev responds - 'It was not!! Holy shit, and he didn't notice?' Stone is Clove's brother, an Iberian wolf and head chef of the restaurant where they both work. He's a good guy but easily distracted. The bell above the door goes ding-a-ding. We see an ear and eye come into frame, then a closeup of a shocked Clove saying 'Oh, come on...' Closeup of the newcomer's chest, some loose thick chain necklaces over a Minnesota Wild jersey and a denim lapel with some lesbian pride pins. Closeup of Bev looking miffed as she says 'Awww, no way...' Shot of Booker the smooth collie coming into the diner, a grin on her face. In the background, Clove face palms while Bev leans her head back in annoyance and both say in unison - 'Babe, don't look now, but...' Bev and Clove from the other angle, both pointing towards Booker and saying in unison - 'My ex just walked in. Wait, what.' Booker's attention has been caught by a cute feline in a skirt and is saying 'oh heyyy there baby' However when Bev and Clove speak, their attention shifts and they look over with a 'hm?' before saying 'just one second, sweetness, is that...' Booker looks absolutely delighted as she steps towards our heroines, saying 'OH. MY. GOD. CLOVE!!! BEV??!' Clove thinks 'Fuuuuuuuuck' Bev thinks 'A'
