A care home in Edinburgh has donated funds to support an important cause. Care UK’s Cairdean House in Colinton has presented Carlops Parish Church with a £900 donation during a special cheque ceremony. Carlops Parish Church hosts regular afternoon teas, concerts, clubs and other charitable events to raise funds for a variety of causes, including projects supporting communities in Malawi. The donation from Cairdean House will contribute to the church's Malawi Fund, helping to support vital education and healthcare projects for children in the village of Kalumba. The donation was inspired by resident Agnes “Nan” Buchan, 94, who has been a member of the church for more than 40 years and has dedicated much of her life to fundraising for charitable causes.

The Labour councillor, Katrina Faccenda, who was first elected in 2022, has not been reselected by the local party as a possible candidate. In the same round of appointments to the list of possible candidates, the councillor for Colinton/Fairmilehead, Conor Savage, who was elected on 23 January 2025, has not been selected. The local government committee is made up of members of the council group and affiliate bodies. Both Cllr Faccenda and Cllr Savage were interviewed by the committee who then recommend candidates who may go forward for selection. On this occasion the local committee has decided not to recommend Cllrs Faccenda or Savage as one of the candidates.
