Here's a short comic I drew for last year's Tales of Symphonia Secret Santa. I love these characters so much.
A digital comic page featuring Lloyd and Colette from Tales of Symphonia. Everything is drawn in grayscale except for Colette's red eyes, signifying that she's in her soulless state. Lloyd approaches and speaks to her as he removes his gloves. He says "Hey, Colette! How are you feeling? We're done making camp for the night so I thought I'd keep you company. I know that angel said you can't hear us, but I bet you're in there. Though I'm going to look like a real moron if I'm wrong, huh?" He laughs. "Aha... ha..." Then, in a small font, says "I miss you." Lloyd's hand brushes Colette's. He looks distressed as he remembers Colette kicking a dog after it touched her. Lloyd winces, but notices Colette doesn't react to him. He tentatively pokes her hand, before smiling and taking her hand in his. The final page is in color. Lloyd and Colette are viewed from behind as they look out at the night sky. Lloyd holds Colette's hand and above them, text reads "I'll bring you back. I promise."

Only dimly was he aware of the townspeople that walked around them, traveling up those same stars, going into nearby shops or even to that same church. “I…” he croaked out, his voice halting. Colette was patient with his shortcomings as always. She smiled at him, even as she shivered in her cloak. “I know it’s sudden,” she said to him. “And I know we haven’t even known each other for that long… But I’ve never been happier than I am with you. I feel…more alive than I ever have before.”

Welcome to the Wings Café!” said someone else entirely. “Where we serve you… on wings!” Lloyd had managed to get Zelos in a headlock so that the guy could stop pushing him when he finally noticed the person speaking to them. He raised his head, momentarily stunned. A girl with shining blonde hair stood before them in a frilly maid uniform, tinged a light green and a soft white. She even had a cap to match her dress, outfitted with red ribbons, and… “Oh? Wings?” he said aloud.

Dirk counted his small blessings that the Exsphere was still concealed. “Who’s this brat?” said the Desian named Lee. “And why is a child carrying weapons so openly? I thought this village was peaceful…unless that’s not the case.” Lee glanced at the mayor, eyes barely seen through the slits in the metal helmet. “Please! This boy is not even from the village!” The man’s voice quivered, but Dirk noticed the faint sheen of rage that just underlined the expected fear. He had always known the man would never be a friend to Lloyd, but still it made his hackles rise. Lloyd then stood in front of Colette, his limbs shaking, yet he didn’t let go of his hold on his sword hilt. “You should back off!”

A hand was outstretched, holding the plastic cord gently in its palm, the line wrapped around it as clear as silk. “Oh, thank you! I was looking for that.” He took the fishing line gratefully. Then stopped. Then thought a moment. He was out in the middle of the ocean. So, another hand… was kind of weird, wasn’t it? When he moved to look over the side, he didn’t do it quickly or with loud movements. A hand carefully placed itself over the rim, fingers pressed against the damp wood, the thin lines of a fishing net he had also brought along with him, ready to be cast out into the water. Sunlight fell over waves, so bright that it blinded him. Salt on his tongue, eyes still peering through the light, he found her there–and felt familiarity. It’s said that beauty cannot be trusted when it’s from the sea. A wondrous pattern can lure any curious sailor to fall overboard, or a song so piercing the heart can smash a ship to pieces against rocks hidden beneath. But the girl that peeked her face from the waves only blinked, her golden hair unfurling all around her, like the serrated drapes of a strange curtain. Lloyd leaned forward, just a bit, as his tiny rowboat wobbled, the splashing water taking over sound. He saw the shape of a fish tail far beneath her in the swirling dark, saw the trails of scales that dotted her shoulders, and the curved fins that poked out from the sides of her head.

Lloyd could see her long scratches on her right cheek, made by a weapon, though the blood had dried. An Exsphere was clasped to her collar by gold bands – different from his – shaped as a diamond instead of a sphere. It gleamed as red as the blood on her cheek. He could see her hair, ruffled by the travel of her flight. Her eyes were so blue. He…somehow didn’t expect it. She’s… The girl swallowed. Her wings flapped slightly, moving her backwards in the air, though not by much. “Are… you one of those angels?” She flicked a glance to his own wings, their azure light falling against her dress. It took Lloyd another moment. She was noting the difference in him. His wings weren’t made of feathers like most who lived in Welgaia, just pure mana – like his father’s, like Yggdrasill’s. And like hers. Lloyd must have moved closer without meaning to, (her eyes were just so blue) because suddenly Colette held out something before her, clutched in both of her hands.
