People keep talking about “risk profiles” but the reality is that many people worried about opsec are basically incapable of evaluating the risk of respective actions. “I can’t be photographed at a protest but I’ll tail federal officers with no phone or ID” - you have inverted the relative risk.
we really do need to have more open conversations about personal risk and opsec... different people in different situations have different risk profiles but broadly speaking I don't think most people need to maintain absolute anonymity at most protests

Small talk is not useless. It is an informational handshake to see how each party encodes information. You are not wasting time, you are calibrating your data density and content for a mutually optimal interface. Rushing through to Deep Topics without calibration can result in poor CommSec.

My dad worked for commsec at Ft Huachuca for over 30 years. I thought the training ranges were not near the border for security purposes... could be different now, he retired almost 18 years ago.
