I gotta say the media falls into this trap by too often interchangeably using "president" and "commander in chief" when talking about solely domestic things. Giving that term a wider meaning in a pernicious way. We've had "comander in chief" creep since Reagan (and Bush II) but it is out of hand now

umezawa's jitte is a 21 year old magic card and I still play it in commander whenever it can be remotely justified. a fun and frankly unhinged design that can still be relevant after decades of power creep

umezawa's jitte is a 21 year old magic card and I still play it in commander whenever it can be remotely justified. a fun and frankly unhinged design that can still be relevant after decades of power creep

idk i would be so fine and happy if a yearly release schedule was 3 in universe standard sets, and one UB standard set (prevents MH-style power creep) or a commander-centric or otherwise premium product release (preferably draftable).
thinking about Universes Beyond having multiple sets released in a year and what makes me the most sad/frustrated as a player (besides the price) is that they don't feel special? like it was cool to have LotR be a big summer thing that got revisited in the winter. will there still be FF hype in Dec?

So ironic that Dragons should technically be one of the main appeals of Commander: they're big, splashy, and don't see play in any other formats!
However, they saw so much support and power creep over the years that they're now just a busted casual archetype that will easily stomp most decks.

Between the flood of product and the glut of power creep, I feel like commander has lost it's identity.
It was a delicious soup at one point. But everything keeps getting dumped in the pot and the balance is off.
I think that's why I keep gravitating to alternative formats.
