Slender dayflower (Commelinaceae: Commelina erecta) can be found throughout much of the Americas, usually in dry sandy soil. The common name comes from the fact that individual flowers only last for one day. Ash Hollow State Historical Park near Lewellen Nebraska, 29 Jul 2025.

Prairie Spiderwort (Tradescantia virginica in the Commelinaceae family) is a tall native perennial. The leaves are edible raw or cooked. Use flowers as an edible garnish. A root poultice can treat stings, while root tea treats constipation. #foraging #medicinalwildplants #photography #gardening
