It's hard to let go of things, people and places — especially when one or them is yourself. Our brains are wired to fear loss and cling to what feels familiar. I think my nervous system has been choosing a known struggle over an unknown future, but that's not safety. It's just complacency. Hubris.

Not at all. But we shouldn't expect things to get better the second he's out of office. It's a long road that is a lot more than uphill. We need to be prepared for that. Closing your eyes and yelling "lalalalalalalala" doesn't make things go away. Complacency is yet another enemy.

12/ I know that pattern of arts-dabbling retired (mostly) widows, all working very hard on finding themselves, keen on being allies, but not rocking boats too hard.
When the art is kickass and lifts me out of complacency, I will put up with art league politics.
