Gender Criticality embeds all sorts of forms of this Catholic/Christian complementarian philosophy extensively even amongst nominally atheist Gender Critical adherents.

Actually I'd argue given Britain's history as an increasingly secular country which nevertheless was readily infected with complementarían philosophy as a result of TERFs filing the serial numbers off of evangelical & Catholic moral panic, it's good to care about the specific philosophical moves.
Not saying that people have to become familiar with theological shit going on within church stuff, but at least recognise that there's a risk of lumping in victims with abusers when people scapegoat faith in the abstract rather than conservatism, integralism, complementarianism, clericalism, etc.

[explaining feminism to oomf] well you see, there's two types of pro-heterosexualists who believe in the "realness and eternity of sex": 1) the people who desire a complementarian jock/nerd sex traditionalism 2) the people who desire an egalitarian omegaverse fraternity

Complementarian churches this morning. It's basically sacralized mansplaining.

I don’t know who needs this reminder, but … complementarian theology is nothing more than the Christian version of the dom/sub kink.

But this is all about imposing a crude classification for political purposes. Partly it aims to eradicate the social reality that trans and intersex people exist. More broadly, it is part of imposing a complementarian "biology is destiny" ideology which defines who you can be in terms of "sex".

“For the next few days, I will be highlighting 12 books that, in different ways, disrupt complementarian theology. Each book is strong enough in its own purpose. Taken together, they are “more strong”—strong enough to end Christian patriarchy.” open.substack.com/pub/bethalli...

You increasingly have people like Louise Perry who started off "atheist", but interested in sex essentialist and complementarían beliefs that came out of the church, helped spread them through secular liberal media and is now a Christian traditionalist later on.

As my colleagues pointed out that Lousie Perry is pretty much a Christian fundamentalist whose complementarian and transphobic views are laundered and peddled as "feminism" in the press, I found myself moved to continue reading this book and its associated works.

So, onwards!

Is there any interpretation of Scripture more absurd than the complementarian reading of Galatians 3:28

That's the basis of the whole complementarian He Protects, She Obeys worldview. She obeys every day, he may never need to protect. And might flake out if the moment comes.

Lots of complementarian Christians who love "Biblical Manhood" and go to "Manliness Seminars" where they talk about laying down their lives to defend women...

...are now saying I should NOT put myself between a woman being violently shoved sprawling to the sidewalk and the man who is shoving her.

The ideal of immutable god given complementarían sex roles is kept alive by frequently soaking it in the blood of dead trans and queer people.

Beat enough of us, force us into gayborhoods away from your kids schools, force us out of legitimate jobs and the illusion that we even exist disappears.

Harrison Butker, the failed NFL kicker whose mom is one of Atlanta's most respected medical physicists, played a major role in mainstreaming this dangerous Christian Nationalist "complementarian" ideology.

As my college commencement speaker, he ruined one of the most important moments of my life.
Struggling to put this into the right words, but it feels like the current Republican party’s desire to keep women in the home and out of the public sphere has shifted into a new violent gear in the wake of Renee Nicole Good’s murder

Maybe the theological divide isn’t between conservative and progressive or Baptist and Catholic or complementarian and egalitarian or whatever but between those who are gracious and those who enjoy being big jerks.

Every camp’s got them.

This is a similar pattern to how Evangelicals frame "complementarian" gender roles: the husband gets to make hyperbolic claims of how he'd (hypothetically) risk his life to protect his wife from (vague, unnamed) danger, while the wife has to sacrifice her autonomy *every day*.
The “I would commit heinous crimes for my children” to “my children don’t speak to me and I refuse to get therapy” pipeline

That guy’s beard is enough to tank any possibility of him getting women on board.

Even reactionary complementarian women will be like: NO MON, not with you.

El abogado de Manos Limpias que se va porque descubre que sus querellas fake tienen objetivos políticos.

El cargo de Vox que se va porque descubre que son machistas, racistas y no son demócratas.

... our marriage might possibly have had a chance to survive.”

I think she’s right. We found that divorce rates were higher when people followed complementarian teaching. Without that teaching, more marriages would survive.

I hope one day the evangelical church grapples with what they’ve done.
