🔄 At @jax.org's hands-on workshop last week, #AlzSky & #CompSky researchers applied tools like the AD Knowledge Portal to integrate multi-scale data, building skills to drive more rigorous, reproducible #AlzheimersDisease research.

Grateful for such an engaged group of participants & faculty!

[OC] Foxes of Spring

I watch foxes fly
Across my own sky
Fur whipped
Tail strips
Cloud function is y

Fourier norms
Dimensional storms
These ways

Polycule waveforms

Air in their shores

OpenScholar, an open-source language model that can outperform commercial LLMs in performing accurate literature reviews is presented in Nature. The tool has the potential to help scientists navigate the complex, ever-growing task of scientific literature review:

Synthesizing scientific literature with retrieval-augmented language models - Nature
A specialized, open-source, retrieval-augmented language model is introduced for answering scientific queries and synthesizing literature, the responses of which are shown to be preferred by human evaluations over expert-written answers.

With CONCUR, FoSSaCS & FM downgraded to ICORE B (as of today) the future for formal/theoretical CS researchers looks dim. Imagine getting 15 pages of highly technical/formalised work accepted, only for some “outsider” to dismiss it as “not A*”, whatever this means.

I guess I’ll have to adjust my scientific writing classes when it comes to the research ethics part. Something like “fabricating references is gross misconduct, but you might get away with it if the conference is big enough”
#compsky #academicchatter #neurips
What is wild to me is the defense, BY THE NEURIPS BOARD, that fabricated citations do not mean "the content of the papers themselves [is] necessarily invalidated"

It does. It very much does. What do you think citing other work is for? What do you think writing a paper is for? What do you *think*?
NEW: NeurIPS,one of the world’s top academic AI conferences, accepted research papers with 100+ AI-hallucinated citations, new report claims

"Aw, what a cute dog!"

"His name's Noam Compsky! Like the author ha ha!"

Good joke!

"His name's Noam Chompsky. He's named after an obscure writer you probably haven't heard of, named Noam Chomsky."

"Oh, yeah, I figured."

"haha. Anyway, I'm now going to be super condescending and also wordy."
